Screening Questions

To help you find out immediately if you might be eligible for help through DCM, please review the questions below.

We offer three types of assistance:

Rent or Utilities

If you need help with rent or utilities:

  • Do you live in DeKalb County?
  • If you are seeking help with rent, have you received an official Dispossessory Warrant from the DeKalb County Courthouse or written late notice from your landlord? (Many funding sources require a Dispossessory Warrant.)
  • If you are seeking help with utilities, have you received a disconnection notice from the utility company?
  • Is your need for assistance the result of a temporary loss of income and/or temporary increase in expenses?
  • Will you have enough verifiable income coming into your household to meet all your expenses after we assist you? (Please note that future income must be verified in writing through pay stubs, promises of employment, benefits letters, etc. in order for DCM to provide financial assistance.)
  • Do you and/or members of your household pay 100% of your rental cost, without any assistance from a subsidy program such as Section 8?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, unfortunately you do not qualify for assistance from Decatur Cooperative Ministry. Please visit United Way 211 or our Resource Guide to find out more about other resources that may be available.

If you answered “yes” to all of these questions, then you may qualify for financial help, if funds are currently available. Please call us between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 404.284.4411 and follow the voicemail prompts to leave a message requesting help with rent or utilities. Messages are returned on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all appointments for assistance are full for the week, calls can no longer be returned.

Temporary Housing

If you need help with temporary housing:

  • Do you have one or more children living with you that are younger than 18 years of age?
  • Are you currently homeless without the financial resources to secure housing on your own and without the option to stay with friends or family?
  • If you need immediate shelter, is your family headed by a single female, or if you are a female with a male household member over the age of 18, are you willing to temporarily separate from this household member in order to obtain shelter?
  • If you need immediate shelter, are you able to leave the shelter with your family by 7:30 a.m. and be back by 6:30 p.m. each day?
  • If you are currently living on the street or in a shelter and are seeking transitional housing (six months or more), are you willing to immediately take steps to increase your income through employment and/or benefits?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, unfortunately you do not qualify for housing through Decatur Cooperative Ministry. Please visit United Way 211 or our Resource Guide to find out more about other resources that may be available.

If you answered “yes” to all of these questions, then you may be able to find shelter or transitional housing, if space is available. Please call us at 404.377.5365 to speak with or leave a message for a housing program manager. Messages are returned on a first-come, first-served basis until all spaces are full. Once all housing spaces are full, calls can no longer be returned.
